I said out of touch with reality, not a sociopath. There is a difference. Ted Bundy was never insane but murdered 100's of people.
Examples of insanity are hearing voices, delusions of grandeur, lack of touch with basic reality. Giving orders to armies that no longer existed might have been acts of insanity. One could argue that Hitler had delusions of grandeur, but one might also argue that he was "great". He came from humble beginnings and became one of the "greatest" (note the quotation marks) figures of the 20th century in that he altered history as much as any figure in that century.
I don't believe that he was insane in 1933.
