My Grandfather

Myron Robert Killion served as a tech sergeant in the Pacific. A young farmer of German background from central Illinois. He entered active duty 14 Dec 1944. He completed infantry basic training at Fort Hood Texas 3 and 3/4 months worth of training! He served 2 months as a field lineman and 9 months as a Telephone swithboard operator according to his seperation qualification record. He served with the 167th Field Artillery, HQ Battery, 41st Division (I also was in the FA and the communication platoon leader of HQ battery!).Of the 10 months in the Pacific 2 weeks where in combat. He served in the Phillippines campaign(you where right about where those pics are Chuck!) He earned the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Bar, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 1 bronze star. He evidently took part in the occupation of Japan and I have pictures I will post in that section that he took at one of the A-bomb sites. Chuck believes they are of Hiroshima but you all take a look and see what you think. He was discharged 4 April 1946 and died of a brain tumor 9 Dec 1960 after a long dabilitating fight with the cancer. One has to wonder if his time in the radiation led to his ultimate death. He died 8 years before I was born and all I know is that he and my dad were inseperable and that knowing I was interested my Grandmother gave me a box with the items he sent home and his paper work. I will scan/photograph things as I get a chance.
Added his photos of the A-bomb aftermath in that section.
