WW2 RPG - sorta . . .
Since there seems to be a few RPG type games already I figured I would throw this 2 idea out there.
A while back I was working on a sorta_RPG using the WinSPMBT game. I only got a few bites so dropped the idea. I had also considered doing the same thing using WinSPWW2 as the game engine for this if there was enough interest. The game would be needed to actually play BUT since the game is free there should be no problem getting access. Basically, what would be done is the units would be edited to represent individuals, not squads and players would control their character.
The game would be played like a regular WinSPWW2 PBeM game but instead of only 2 players, the file is passed to each player (player character) in sequence for them to make their own moves/firing. There could be vehicles (players as NPC's with a player designated to control that "vehicle" as the driver/crew). The enemy is played by another person (not involved in the player side). I had started work on limited experience point system so players could increase their skills (morale/experience, etc).
One drawback is that since it is Pbem and each player must get the file play their turn and pass it along, it is seriously slow since it could take 1-2 days per player to do their turn. With 10 players you are looking at maybe 1 month per turn, not good.
Anyway, its just a thought and is nowhere near ready but thought I would bring the idea/concept up for comment.
Another idea I had along similar lines is using ASL as the game and playing a modified version of SASL (Solitaire Advanced Squad Leader) where the players represent squad/platoon leaders and the enemy is the SASL system. Since ASL is pretty detailed it could get rather complicated so anything that could be done to streamline it would be great. Players would not need the game or know much about it to play in this version.
Thoughts, comments?
