28 August 1941
A Russian convoy of 195 vessels and stretching for more thasn 15 miles which includes 29 ships evacuating 24,000 Russian troops from Estonia to Leninigrad runs into a German laid minefield in the Gulf of Finland, The commotion attracts the attention of the Luftwaffe and shore batteries resulting in the loss of 53 vessels with more than 6,000 men killed.
