I suppose that could work too but it never occurred to me until you suggested it. I'm actually loosely following 'Mig' Jimenez' method of weathering just to find out what I can do. He uses a brush at this stage too. As I see it, the beauty of the brush is that the pigment settles in the lid. You can use less coloured dilutant, or more colour by stirring the mix up a little. If I sprayed, I'd get all the pigment quite quickly and then just dirty turps. I can see advantages to it though.
