Dear Jim, the so called Swastika/Hakenkreuz is a very common symbol here in Northern Germany.
Hundreds of them you will find even nowadays, these "runes" are some kind of a standard over here, especially on old farm houses, build within the last 200 to 300 years.
If you like, I will share some photos, taken by me, but as always, it needs some time, to scan all this old photo material...
