I'm not sure that I understand your point PrussianBlue. People's "personal" lives often have intersect and have major impacts on their "public" lives. Looking at the person "in a vacuum" is rarely useful. To paraphrase you, I would say it is the
whole of the person that we find interesting, yes?
If Mengele was afraid of being captured, does that perhaps say something about him, and if so what? People who are that unrepentant are often not afraid to state their case in court.
If he was so nervous that he developed trichotillomania and trichophagia, does that say something about him?
If he died as a result of obstruction by trichobezoar (the symptoms of which generally include abdominal pain and vomiting) then that is as interesting as how any other "public" figure died. I'd find it at least a tad ironic that his past haunted him so much that it killed him. Is that not about "the person"?
