I used to work at a Walmart here in Washington Missouri, and I know the younger generation can NOT count back change! They also cannot do simple addition and subtraction without a calculator! The schools actually allow them to use a calculator on math tests. I once read in the early 80's that some think tank put out a research paper that said that we won't need smart workers in the future, just workers that will follow orders. The computers will do the hard stuff. This is what has been guiding education in our country ever since! Listen to the talk radio shows sometimes, high school kids in California get science class credit for showing the class how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich! It was their science project, and they got a good grade on it! it is scary!!
