I asked a question about this at another site and never got an answer I was happy with. The discussion was about the KV2 and it's habit of dropping its turret while traversing steep grades. This seemed a bit odd to me. I asked 'If I was able to pick up a tank and invert it, would the turret just fall off?' In other words, were (are) turrets just held in place by gravity? That seems a little bit funny to me.
I believe, like battleship turrets, they are held on by gravity.
Yes, gravity is the thing that keeps 'em in place.
