What we call World War II can be seen as two very large wars running in parallel. While events of one certainly had bearing on the other, the European war (to include North Africa and the Middle East) and the Asia-Pacific War were in large part separate. American students, of course, are taught that World War II started at Pearl Harbor, in December 1941 and, oh, by the way, the Nazis were at the gates of Moscow by then and we saved the world. One of the most famous World War II images we see here in the US is that of the flag raising at Iwo Jima, atop Mount Suribachi, on February 23, 1945.
I had family involved in both theatres, but the European war has always interested me more. I hope that we get even more people interested in the Asia-Pacific was to come here and we all can learn something.
