Hi,
I wargame with Dave & have done quite a lot of terrain creation recently.
I might have a few photos of the construction process I used to create some rivers & roads. If I can find them I will post them here.
Alfoil is great for shaping terrain. Just scrunch it up into the approximate shape you want, generally 'expanded out' from its final form. Then stick it to a base with some contact cement. Go off & do some more sections & when you come back the glue will be dry.
Then squash it down to the final shape you want.
I usually then paint the whole thing black.
After this you can paint it up using dry & wet brush techniques, or if it is bare ground paint it with PVA glue & dip it in appropriate coloured sand. After this is dry I usually put more glue on selected places & dip in 'flock'. This gives a pleasing grass & earth look. I usually use this when basing up figures as well.
