Re: what have you been watching

I just finished watching the DVD "Monte Cassino" from the the Battlefield sieries. It should be called the Italian Campaign as it follows the Italian Campaign from start to finish and covers the battles at Monte Cassino. What did suprise me was in the section on weaponds they covered American artillery and they showed a drawing of an M-1 155 mm Howitzer which they called the Long Tom and also said it had a range of 5 miles.

Back in 1956 I served in an Army reserve artllery battalion and we had 155 mm guns which were sp and had a range of about 15 miles. The one distince feature was the long tube, hence the name.

The 155 showed on this DVD looked like I remember the 155 howitzers in the 155 howitzer battery in the artlllery battalion I served in while in the regular Army in Korea 1n 1962.
