Partisans: fun stuff. One needs to understanda them in contect, not with sweeping genralisations like 'freedom fighters'. They were considered as terrorists, just like how we consider partisans/insurgents in Iraq today.
Funny though that Stalin calls on partisans all over the Soviet Union to engage the Germans, but instead it is Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian partisans who drive the Soviets out and let the Wehrmacht in. After all, the Soviets were the occupiers of the Baltic states. The Baltic partisans were transformed into 'defence battalions' of the Wehrmacht by the Germans, thus becoming legal combatants. I wonder if the Red Army later granted Russian partisans official soldier status.
