Re: White Washing History
Bob, I think these things are very, very important. But then I read. My partner (bless her) does not despite the fact that she's a highly educated (I'm not) academic. If I had a dollar for every time I was told to 'shut up' because I got agitated about some falsehood, lie, bending of the truth or whatever, that I see in every day media (including Hollywood) I'd be able to afford that investment property. It makes my blood boil that it seems like I'm the only one who sees history repeating itself, people getting more ignorant and not less, how folks are let off the hook rather than held accountable, how everything is somebody else's job, fault, problem or responsibility. Man I hear you.
I met a woman once who told me something I thought was pretty kooky at the time. She said that there weren't many real people in the world...just millions of 'extras' if you will. They act like people but they're motivated by less sophisticated things like the need for sex and a plasma TV...beyond that, they don't really give a damn. I begin to think this woman was way wiser than I was. She also advised me to 'Be in the world, not of the world'. I've since read the same thing in Buddhist and Hindu texts.
Peace.
