The V-1 and V-2 are heading definitivly for gold. That's for sure. But what about the Maginot line. This thing was about as effective as a catflap in an elephanthouse. And it took the french 10 years to build it.
The Maginot Line was built to fulfill several purposes:
To avoid a surprise attack and to give alarm. Yep, worked out just as the french had intended.
To cover the mobilization of the French Army (which took between 2-3 weeks). Good idea. They only forgot that it takes only 2-3 month to win the war.
To save the forces (France counted 39,000,000 inhabitants, Germany 70,000,000). What for?
To protect Alsace and Lorraine (returned to France in 1918) and their industrial basin. *snicker*
To be used as a basis for a counter-offensive.
To push the enemy to circumvent it while passing by Switzerland or Belgium. They knew it! They even knew it!
I wish to state that I do not intend to make fun of the french nation... well...perhaps a little bit.
