Hitler and the Third Reich Tour

When I was in Munich in 2002 I had the opportunity to go on the Hitler and the Third Reich walking tour. It was an interesting thing to do, and if it's still available (perhaps best to be read about by doing a web search) you might want to think of doing it if you go.

The tour began with a discussion of Hitler's early days in Munich, including the beer hall-putsch. One thing that I found really interesting concerned a certain intersection area of Munich, near a church (a Jesuit church, I think), and also near a portico with two lion statues. I think this was an area where Hitler and his early supporters clashed with local police (I'm a little forgetful of the details), and there was a street which paralleled the area that came to be known as something like "The Way of Cowards". This was because eventually, people who walked down the main street were required to give their salute to what I believe may have been the Nazi party building, and those who refused walked down an alternate route. The tour also included a pass around what Hitler had envisioned as a "grand" Nazi area, near the Munich Nazi headquarters.
