Re: Joy's WW II quiz!
Ok Tom, your answers to Qs. 1,3,7,8 & 10 were correct. Pretty good= 50% 'marks' scored!
Temujin (sounds Mongolian to me!) is correct; Koniev was the 'friendly' rival to Zhukov, both trying to capture Berlin first. In fact, K. had already reached a point nearer Berlin than Zh., but the Vozhd (Stalin) leaned in favour of Zh.
The other answers are:
6. Seems you know a lot, but anyway, Skorzeny was the leather-neck SS commando who rescued Mussolini and later organised saboteurs behind US lines, creating confusion! So much so that it is stated that Gen. Monty himself was detained by a US trooper. The latter wouldn't let him into a US HQ till he could prove that he was not a fake! Hats off the Otto!
Incidentally, the seemingly peaceful Austria with its pretty 'Sound of Music' and Salzburg seems to have influenced Germany in a disproportionate way. And with an overdose of the macho cult! Hitler, the later RSHA boss Kaltenbrunner (another tough built!), and Otto were all Austrians, as far as I know. Look at the California Gubernator, too! The he-manest of them all (though has nothing to do with the 3. Reich!).
