Thought I'd give you all a little update about my search for information. I found out that my grandfather served aboard LST 528 during the invasion at Normandy. He told me that he was a (might not get this just right) 2nd class mechanic (of some sort), and later was "promoted" I think to 3rd class damage control. Some clarification of what those positions actually are would be appreciated as well as to whether I have the titles and ranks right or not.
mausmp - wanted to say a special thanks to you, for telling me about the LST memorial in Indiana. I was searching their website and found another member of the LST 528 that had posted to the site after working on the memorial ship. I have emailed him and hope to hear back in a day or two.
Also, wanted to tell you all that after our "new addition" gets here (a bouncing baby boy due in October), that we are going to try and take my grandparents up the the memorial ship toward the end of November or beginning of December. I'm going to continue to find out more about his role and such during the war.
