Re: Getting back home
Amazing how often urine enters survival stories!
It's supposed to aid chilblains. If need be, you can drink someone else's, but don't drink your own. It will kill you. It's not a survival story, but a second cousin was once a young lieutenant in the US Army. While on maneuvers in the winter, some men of his platoon started a fire. Naturally, he gravitated that way for heat. The company commander came over and chewed him out for violating light discipline. "Platoon, attention! Present c*cks! Ready, piss! Recover!" Fire out, problem solved... Slightly off topic. I hope Jim doesn't get pissed at me!

Re: Getting back home
Barrett, the two campaigns started around the same time, both around summer 1940. Germany gave up on Operation Sea Lion in Oct 1940, which was before North Africa campaign was won by the Allies, but it does not take away the fact that the British and Commonwealth men were winning engagements large and small in the Desert War at the same time RAF fighters engaged German aircraft above Britain.
I think the subject line of this thread is more or less a figure of speech, not an exact science. I don't think it can be an exact science as people still can't decide when was the exact starting date of WW2
