Red face Star Trek Starship Tatical Combat Simulator

In this game, my friend and I were playing people who had never played the game, so we played by his "basic basic" rules. In these rules, he did away with crew casualties, cloaking, plasma weapons, evasive maneuvers, sensor phases, and shortened the tactical advantage phase. He has set up three class of ships. All players start off with class one ships. That is, ships with no photon torpedoes, small, maneuverable, and very little superstructure. During this part of the game, all players roll dice to see which race of ship they get. I started out with a Romulan ship. I attacked and destroyed two Orion ships during this part of the game. Later we all moved up to class two ships. These are larger, less maneuverable, more superstructure, banked phaser weapons, and more power. I had a Klingon ship for this part of the game, and I destroyed a Federation ship. I also had my ship destroyed for the first time in this part of the game, by two Orion ships ganged up on me. I re-rolled for a new ship, and got an Orion ship. They are typically more maneuverable than other ships of the same class, but have wimpier weapons. This time I destroyed a Klingon ship, but was destroyed by a Federation and a Klingon ship that ganged up on me because I was winning. Next we all got to move up to phase three ships. These are less maneuverable, but have more shields, superstructure, banked phasers, and photon torpedoes. I rolled and got a Romulan ship. My friend O.J. said it was the best of all the phase three ships. I destroyed a Gorn ship (they are slower and have fewer good weapons, but more superstructure). In the end, I had more ship kills than anybody, so I won. But all the players had a good time. We played on a map that had 6 counters numbered one to six. These represented wormholes, and if you needed to get away from someone, you could fly to a wormhole, roll a die, and see where you come out. One time, three ships were hitting each other pretty good, and two of them decided to take their chances and fly into the closest wormhole, of course the other ship chased after them. All three ended up rolling the same number and coming out the same wormhole. Not what they had expected!

That does look sooooo cool indeed! I saw a game being played in the Miniatures Hall at Origins this year, and it looked awesome! Makes a gamer want to run out and by Star Trek minis!

How about a Review of the game system in the Community Reviews sub-forum? I'd love to learn more about the game!!!

These minis are micro-machines. You may notice the mix of Star Trek and Star Wars. I met a guy at the last Diecon that had collected over 200 micro-machines starships. If you see any more of them anyplace, count yourself lucky and go buy them before anyone else does.

I have a complete set of Babylon 5 Micro Machines...if only I had a game to play them in! They are nice quality, from what I can tell...never took them out of the blister packs.
