Re: Name That Plane

What's with the wing in front, Dave? Is it for stability? Steering? Extra lift?

Re: Name That Plane

The foreplane gives more lift than a conventional tailplane and improves maneuverability, but that comes at a cost, it is a less stable design than having a tailplane and its aerodynamic instability is more noticable at lower speeds.

The airframe configuration of fixed-wing aircraft where the main lifting surface is at the rear and the tail forward is a "Canard". (French for "Duck")

The foreplanes (airfoil) act the same the tailplane and elevators on a conventional airframe but the control surface actions have an opposite effect due to swap in position of the centre of gravity.

Cheers,
Dave

Re: Name That Plane

No worries Jim, I was actually worried that I hadn't exlained it clearly enough.

Okay, I hope this next aircraft is harder to name than my last one.
(I have another one which I was going to choose but decided on this one.)

Cheers,
Dave

Re: Name That Plane

Dunno what it is Dave but it has a Dornier or Heinkel kinda vibe for me.
Jim, that cell is obviously REALLY Justine.
Remember the Israelis stealing the Mirage blue prints and whacking a canard on it. They called it the K'fir I think. (Still to learn how to embed pics, sorry).

Re: Name That Plane

Sorry Geek, but it isn't a Dornier or a Heinkel mate.

Anyone care to have stab at what it's called?

Cheers,
Dave
