Re: All American Nose Art - PG-13

Nice detail on the chin turret in that last one. Never realised the breaches stuck out the bottom like that!!

Re: All American Nose Art - PG-13

I know this is 'All American' but would it be OK to post some British & Commonwealth nose art? Whilst they are no where near as prolific as the USAAF there are some good ones there. I don't really think it needs a seperate thread!

Re: All American Nose Art - PG-13

The book "Touched with Fire: The Land War in the South Pacific" says that "For reasons known only to Admirals"
US Navy planes were not allowed to have nose art.
Not sure what the policy in the US Marines was.

(Even though its mostly covers mostly the ground
war as the subtitle indicates, it did have a section
on transports)

The "All American" part was actually a play on the phrase all "All American Boy" pertaining to the nature of the artwork. By all means include any nose art. here.

I'm surprised. All the stuff I have are GI snaps and usually not very clear.

And yet, some did. I have pics in a book of some pretty elaborate art on an F6 Hellcat and certainly some 'shark mouthed' Marine P-39s. I'm pretty certain that the F6 in question flew from a carrier but to be honest, the PTO isn't really my forte.
Peace.

Re: All American Nose Art - PG-13

Here is the most famous Halifax of the RAF, Friday the 13th completed 128 missions and survived the war. The writting above and below the skull and scyth reads 'As ye sow, so ye shall reap'. This picture was taken last week at Elvington museum by DCRanger, a member of another forum I frequent and used by his kind permission!
