Looks like a Lysander??

Spot on, its a Lysander and the groundcrew is fitting an F-24 with a 5" lens. At the start of WW2 the Lysander was used on short range reconnaissance missions.

Have a look here - RAF Reconnaissance Aircraft

Re: Combat Aerial Photography

Being a former news camera op, I'd like to salute the bravery of the war time camera man, whether motion camera or still, to be in the line of fire while only shooting back with film is a nervy thing, I admire their courage to get the best pictures,
done it a couple of times myself at seiges...nothing like those boys...or anything like the german Menge! That's bravery!

Here is some of their non-stategic/recon photos that I think are interesting.

Cheers,

Re: Combat Aerial Photography

Here's a reconnaissance image where I live in the UK. Taken in 1941 on a reconnaissance training sortie by 17 Operational Training Unit (OTU) based at RAF Upwood.
I'm lucky I have 9 original prints that cover this area

The village has now changed, I think at the last count over 2,500 people live there now.

Thanks for the comments about the site, I still have a great deal work to do with it, but my duties come first.

Re: Combat Aerial Photography

I've got it bookmarked! Your site is great reference material for "design your own" wargaming scenarios, too. Keep up the good work!
