That's a fair amount of steel.


At the time pic was taken the guts were being preserved elsewhere leaving a gutted looking interior.

That would be the nose of a B-17G. The Norden Bombsight is covered to protect its secrecy. The chin turret is aimed remotely by a yoke mounted on an arm from the right side of the fuselage that stows towards the right side of the fuselage (while using the bombsight) and aimed via a reflector sight suspended from the top center.

Again, note the missing gun barrels . . .
