Yes it was invented by two french army Captain but Wikipedia says that neither of them were Claude Minie who it was named for. I think he was the producer of the bullet.

I'd say Colt M1860 "Army".

Well liked by the troopers, sturdy n' reliable design plus that it's caliber .44 n' thus makin' bigger holes than the caliber .36 revolvers.
