Use of derogatory terms

Everyone who has not done so, please familiarize yourself with the site's Rules and Regulations. Specifically, I point to the following "Racist references will not be tolerated.".

On several recent occasions I have dealt with the term "Jap" or "Japs" in reference to Japanese people. While it was acceptable and common parlance in the World War II era, it is not so today. Please do not use it unless it is to directly quote something where it is then historically relevant. In that situation I would liken it to Mark Twain's books. I wouldn't edit out the "n word" but I also would not write it today.

One question (not really, you know me by now!!) the term "Rusky" is good to go though, would'nt it?

The best rule of thumb, Tom, is to address other nationalities on the site as you would face to face. If you wouldn't call stranger on the street by a National nickname, why would you here?

Its not a matter of PC, but rather respect.

Excellent moderation folks...this is why I'll keep coming back here.
Most Aussies (maybe even all) don't mind being called Aussies, colonials or even bread thieves...just to clarify. Just don't call us 'late for dinner'.

I will attack the Rusky squad over in hex B, using my LMG, then follow up with an assault.

Tom, I have no doubt you intend no disrespect. However, I have heard that very same ethnic slang used as a slur.

If you are permitted to use it, we set the stage for others to use it. And if we we allow that one, then why not others? Before long the Mods here will be cleaning up one post after another and not very happy about it.

An international forum where often sensitive subjects are up for discussion is a fragile environment. We intend to handle it with care.

I think we are clear on this, yes?
