Re: New Section -- Other Conflicts
I have a feeling that many who might not be familiar with the American Civil War will quickly gain an interest as the section starts to grow.
I know we already have a few members here that have a keen interest and knowledge of the conflict and once they start to post, we will all be in an informative ride.

Re: New Section -- Other Conflicts
start
![]() Or as we say here in Colorado, “The War of the Damn Texans trying to seize our ski areas” In 1862 a Texas invasion force advanced through New Mexico on their way to Colorado. Fortunately on Mar. 28, 1862 at the Battle of Glorita Pass (The “Gettysburg of the West”), a Colorado regiment stopped them cold. Oh sure, their official objective was to conquer the gold fields (from the famous Pikes Pike gold rush of 1859). But any red blooded Coloradoan could tell you that is a flimsy cover story. Their REAL top-secret orders were to seize the land that would became ski areas a century later … And there may be fancy-smancy theories about why the war started such as slavery or state’s rights. But ask a true-blue Coloradoan & they will say it was because those Texans were trying to break out of their God-given roles. As we say here “If God had intended for Texans to ski, he would have made cow dung white”. As to how this affects WWII & post-WWII history -- Well the US 10th Mt. Division trained in Colorado & after the war many of their Vets helped establish the US ski industry. As Colorado patriots, if Texans had been on land that could have been a ski area, they would have been so depressed they would probably gone into another field of work … maybe tiddlywinks. end ![]() Seriously, here is a list of some Western battles: http://www.currensnet.com/Cwcongrs/Batllst.HTM

Re: New Section -- Other Conflicts
I would be interested in thread that encompassed the post Korea wars by proxy. I am becoming quite interested in the conflicts in Algeria, Aden, Oman, The Congo, Angola and Rhodesia. Also the French in Indo China bears some examination in light of the American and Australian commitment to Vietnam from 1965.
I also think a discussion of the Soviet invasion of Afganistan would be very timely.

As for the others, you or anyone else with expertise in the area can certainly start threads in the main post-World War II section. As I have said, if the demand is there additional subforums can and will be created and threads moved.
