That's the one of the main command bunkers on Tarawa if I'm not mistaken. You can tell by the "T" shaped air ducts. The marines poured gas down them and then tossed in a match... Tarawa was not a pretty place to visit that week.

Japanese children, on Okinawa? I think the Japanese had most all civilians sent back to the main land or such. Especially woman and children. Perhaps they were locals?
