I read of an ambush on an American supply convoy during the Ardennes Offensive. There are many pictures of German troops with 'booty'. Among the usual chocolate and cigarettes, the most popular items seemed to be .45s, American waterproof ponchos and M1 Carbines.
Anyone else think the guy at the back is carrying an M1? I only half think he is.

I don't think it's an M1, the buttplate looks wrong.

Actually Nick, you are right. I went back to the book and looked up the photo and found three others and the text confirms this unit picked up and used M1 carbines captured from members of the American 14th Cavalry group.

I've seen the top two pics before and maybe three others, all of the same guy. He has an M1, a .45 AND a poncho. He also looks pretty smug for a German soldier in 1944. But that's my opinion.
