I first heard of this book here in the book forum and immediately sent off for it. It arrived fast and with no hassles. Excellant emails with the authour too.
Well, I will admit that the book was not what I expected however it was everything that is described by the authour. It is his life!
The book goes back to describe his family heritage and how it came to be that they settled where they did. It also describes the authours upbringing before and during Hitler's rise to power. Family gatherings, outings with relatives, and just the typical growing up.
There is very little description of the authours time in the military and even less of his time at the front.....I was a little disappointed in this myself. He does describe a very disturbing event though, and his time as a POW is well described and does make for an interesting read.
I did get the impression that the authour and his family did not like Hitler right from the beginning.
All in all it is a decent book, a little higher priced, but not one I would rush out to get. I did find that it took me awhile to get through it.
