Steel Inferno - 1st SS Panzer Corps in Normandy

Steel Inferno - 1st SS Panzer Corps In Normandy
by Michael Reynolds

This is Michael Reynolds's second book after his initial success, The Devil's Adjutant. It covers the actions of the 1. SS-Panzerdivision 'Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler' and 12. SS-Panzerdivision 'Hitlerjugend' of the 1. SS-Panzerkorps during the Normandy Campaign, and neighboring friendly and enemy units which influenced it in battle. The book is basically the German and Allied unit histories compressed together. There is hardly anything new on the Waffen-SS in Normandy, which has been almost covered to death, like the Ardennes. However it does offer an interesting perspective and analysis of the claims of both sides. Overall however, it is still better than the works of Butler, etc.

Right, no earth shattering new info, but I think it's all put together rather well. I'd love it if he could find new information to put in his books, but I rather like the way he writes. He's quite readable, and brings information from disparate sources together pretty well.
