John Heartfield

John Heartfield was a German Communist photomontage artist who were know as an outspoken critic of the Nazi regime, here some of his works:

In this work he depict Hitler as the ex-kaiser Wilhelm II.

"They will judge the people, as long as the people will not judge them!"

This was a reaction to a several death sentences to anti-Nazis that were giving althought the lack of solid evidence.

I had never heard of him but found more info at JOHN HEARTFIELD.

I've never heard of John Heartfield. But his work is amazing. From the expressions on his face he had little to laugh.

Jim, Heartfield/Herzfeld is famous, at least in Germany...

I wish, I was owning just a single sheet....

I've seen some og his work. The first poster for example. But I never made a connection to J.H. Now it seems strange to me, but back then I didn't care very much.

Interesting pictures.
Where did he live during WWII. I don't think he could survive in Germany.

He went to live in exile at Czechoslovakia from 1933, in 1938 he moved to Britain, after the war he settle in the DDR.
