Re: Reconnaissance at Korocha (SASL Tactical Discussion)

FYI - I will be handling all the Rally, Rout and Close combat Phases myself to keep this moving. Not every phase will be handled by the players themselves.

For example, if a unit breaks due to fire, I will rout it as I see fit based on terrain, location of nearby enemy units, nearby leaders who may be able to Rally them, etc. In essence I will become the squad leader and handle their self-preservation actions. Otherwise this will bog down into a 6-12 month game.

Here are the phases players will be providing orders for:

OFFESIVE ORDERS (Prep Fire, Movement, Advancing Fire)

DEFENSIVE ORDERS (Defensive Fire, Special Fire Orders)

Re: Reconnaissance at Korocha (SASL Tactical Discussion)

Just an FYI. Because of the level of details each turn involves, I will do an abstracted play by play for each turn posting only enough information to basically tell what happened. I won't go into any fire modifiers or any other overly detailed information. Just a brief AAR so everyone knows what basically happened and how things stand at the moment.

That makes perfect sence DD...thanks!

Pirate mentioned that you can't see over a wall or hedge unless you're in that hex? Did I hear/read that right? So how then does this affect Fire, LOS? These would be blocking terrain?

Re: Reconnaissance at Korocha (SASL Tactical Discussion)

I am finding this very interesting.

I think the SU-76M is going to need to taken care of quickly. I need to read up more about vehicle combat before I have any suggestions.

I can see one problem with mixed nation units. Leaders are -1 for other national troops.

The SU-76 is a piece of cake. It has crap armor and has to be "crew exposed" to fire. The ATR has a side armor shot and the HQ can wail on the crew with the MGs to supress it. The Italians can assault move into the building and then close combat the tank if it is still alive.

It's smoking wreck will mark our advance...

What we need to watch out for is the AT gun on our reinforcing Half Track. If the AT can shoot the HT, it's dead meat. However, we have a solid middle and plenty of shots. Recall that the tanks can see OVER 1/2 height obstacles (and vice versa) so walls, hedges, wheat fields, and brush do NOT block LOS.

With only 1 broken squad on our side, I think Turn 1 went just fine for us!

Commander of Co B, just make sure there are no more breaking units for that Italian friend of yours. Personally I would "ask" her before you put more of her units "on the line" if it were me. The one broken unit is from that platoon remember.....

Cheers, just a thought, but there are many Russian units to get activated over on the right side of the board.

Tomzak, Co A Commander "talking" to his other Co Captain.

The half-track may help AFTER the AT gun is put out of action in that house.

When it is your job to ATTACK, there are only two options for an unbroken unit in this game.

1) They are in position and FIRING on the enemy.
2) They are MOVING into position to FIRE on the enemy.

They only question then, is "what's the next target" and what weapon will you fire at it.

Broken squads don't concern me. Dead squads concern me. That Italian was just going back for more pizza and the commander was waiting in just the right spot.

The SU-76 must die and 1/2 of B Company is in position to do it!

As far as the half track is concerned, the area is more open on the A Company side so it has more opportunities to use it's long range advantage there. Hopefully, it won't be required on the right flank until much later. By then, B Comp. may have it's own vehicle support.

We shall see what happens!
