About The Photos In This Section

It has been said that German soldiers in the Second World War carried as many cameras as they did rifles. An exaggeration for sure, but among the combatants of World War Two it was the German infantryman most likely to carry a camera and many proved themselves to be prolific photographers.

The photographs featured here are part of a single, massive collection of more than a thousand snapshots taken on the Eastern Front by German soldiers who served there.

The quality and subject material varies, and as a whole represent a time capsule of images reflecting a very violent page of history.

WARNING

Some of these photographs depict human remains as they were found on the battlefields of the Eastern Front.
The most graphic of these images have been posted as links, and may be disturbing to some.

These photographs have no supportive information and will be posted without captions. The membership of World War 2 Zone are invited to post comments to help provide historic relevance to these images.

I will kick off each thread with four photos each from the collection, and follow up with one to two additional photos per thread every other day or so.

Remember, the photographs of the fallen are of men who died in the service of their country. Please keep any comments respectful.
