Probably, but if you're in a warzone, and folks is shootin' at you, the possibility of future deafness might not seem as important!!

In an emergency I can see where they would have done this. I think I've seen something of that sort before. But as a common practice..nope.

It really was not that uncommon. I have seen numerous photos of MG teams where the gun was fired with the fore ward section of barrel over another's man's shoulder. A quick way to get a steady shot.

It was standard practise to teach 'em this particular use when they were recruits. But it wasn't intended as normal procedure to use it in the field but just when they needed to shoot in a hurry n' often in an higher elevation.
