The average soldat in the Wermacht was the same as the average GI/Tommy/Aussie/Canadian. He was a human being with emotions and feelings and when shit happened he could suffer greatly both physically and mentally. They showed respect to their fallen soldiers and, for the most part, the fallen soldiers of the Western Allies and were not just cold-hearted killers as some people classify them today.
