Close Combat Games

I still play CC2 (A Bridge Too Far) and CC5 (Invasion Normandy) religiously.

For CC5 is is mostly all mods with my favorites being: Stalingrad: Operation
Circle, Battle of Berlin and Stalingrad. Do you guys/gals play any CC?

Re: Close Combat Games

I own 'em all n' have played 'em all but now it's a long time since I played any Close Combat. The last I played was the "Gold Juno Sword" mod to CC5.

Re: Close Combat Games

I want to play the first again for old time's sake but I've played the D-day version and this latest one (which is a re-release of the East Front IIRC?)

Re: Close Combat Games

I've heard of the game, only because I'm such an Avalon Hill nut, and ran across reference to the game series in relation. Originally, IIRC, Close Combat was supposed to be the computer replacement (or, is stepchild a better term) to the acclaimed and beloved Grognard boardgame Advanced Squad Leader. Unfortunately, this all transpired roughly around the time that Avalon Hill started its untimely slide down the slippery slope of financial demise. I heard reference to the game from the guys manning the Matrix Games booth at 2007 Origins Game Expo, and it sounds like it's a lot of fun; 2-D eagle-view, Real-Time Tactical for small unit deployment. I had no idea it was "on-line" playable...that's sweet!

I have so many irons in the fire, that I've been real hesitant to explore computer and online gaming with too close a microscope; I've a few PS2 games that had me glued to the TV, and I took that as a tell tale sign of posssible ruin.

Re: Close Combat Games

Yeah I never took this as remotely a "hard-core" wargame, its certainly fun being real time. I like smaller scoped games on a tactical edge, but I think the scope is a bit too small for my tastes. But a few infantry squads and one or two vehicles are usually enough to have a good engagement in CC depending where you are at.

I read where several veteran commanders (Marines, Army) say that it is one
of the finest tactical simulations for small unit combat that there is. Online
the guys play each other (CC2) awarding each side a certain number of pts
to purchase units, really fun as you can pick which units you want or don't
want.

Re: Close Combat Games

I have CC 1 through 5, plus CC Marines.

The best by far IMHO is CCIII. The user made mods and maps for that game are unbelivable.{By far the best selection and widest scope in coverage of all of WWII in mods of all the different versions of CC} Plus you have all the converts of the the CCII maps into CCIII as well. My clan, Kampfgruppe, ruled the roost on the Zone in CCIII for the whole time the zone had it on as one of its games. A stretch of about 6 years. Man we had some good times there, LOL.
