Searching for some veterans

Hi I'm a 19 year old girl from Germnay and I write an article about the end of the socond word war. I'm searching for some Us veterans who were stationed in hersbruck a small town in franconia. Unfortunately I don't know how the unit of these soldiers was called but I have found the names of some members of the former military government. The headmaster was Mayor Dunbaugh. Other members were Captain hearst and Leutnant Laning. i really hope to find some veterans who can tell me something abou the end of the second world war because I want to get another view. if you know how to find them please send me a message!

Re: Searching for some veterans

Kerstin,

I haven't found anything. Do you know what unit(s) were involved?

Re: Searching for some veterans

Hello there,

You may wish to check with the historical branch of the US Army, Center for Military History (http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/). The United States National Archives may have a lot of good information as well and they are generally extremely friendly and helpful for researchers.

Some of the possible info you can use during your research:

1. The 101st Infantry Regiment was in Kronach in Upper Franconia (Oberfranken).
2. 255th Infantry Regiment moved through Waldenburg, Baden-Württemberg, but I'm not sure if this is in Franconia.
3. 55th Armored Infantry Battalion and US 22nd Tank Battalion were in Wernberg, but again I'm not sure if this town was in Franconia.

I hope that helps a little...
