Re: Late-War Russian Success, 44-45.....
I choose a combination, because a) the russians had learned from the earlier fighting, b) they did have numerical superiority, c)the Germans were worn down and without some of their best commanders, e.g. Kleist & Manstein and d)Hitler interfered too much, and the Russian skills included deception so the Germans often did not know where the next blow was falling, e.g. when Bagration hit, the Germans were expecting an attack further south, etc.

Re: Late-War Russian Success, 44-45.....
I think most of the first five things listed but also the Russians had learned to organize their logistics better. There was also a drain by the west of key elements like German fighters, anti-aircraft guns etc.
I guess I do not see any one factor as dominating. In US/Japan for example it the US supperior production that made it hopeless for the japanese.

Re: Late-War Russian Success, 44-45.....
I went with the combo, and feel the biggest effect was that Russia had
the numbers game won by a landslide. Their factories were untouched by bombing, only had one front to worry about. Had things been even numbers Russia would of lost the war in the first year.

Thanks for the votes and comments so far, fairly interesting, but still kinda hard to tell what the "general" opinion is yet.
As I see it, there was no "one factor" in this, but so many that can be posted about, these were some of the ones that I thought about almost a year ago. Cheers, more later on each of my votes!! Tom |
