Volksgrenadiers were a Ifantry made up of younger soldiers that were about 16 to 18 and men that were mostly aged in their late 30's early 40's along with any other servicable men inbetween also some members had been prviously turned down for army service but served in this later on. There not exactly Volssturm but kinda like them they were created by Hitler in 1944 to boost Germany's fighing strenth.

A few inaccuracies here.

First off it was not uncommon at all to have men in their 30s and 40s serving in the Wehrmacht. My father was in his 40's when he entered Stalingrad.

Many in Volksgrenadier divisions were age 50 or better and some those considered unfit for prior military service.

The Hitler Youth was founded in 1922.

Your father was in Stalingrad was he captured?

Thanks, dude. I shall check into it sometime. I remember in the fictional movie "The battle of the bulge" they had extremely young tank drivers that the top cammander didn't like.

Those arn't Volksgreanadiers there Panzer tank commanders Volkssgreanadiers are mostly I fantry the main reason that the tank commanders were so young is for one reason they were new and two very little Veteren tank commanders were available.

I didn't say they were volksgrenadiers, I meerly pointed out the fact that they were young inexperienced reqruits. A common sight for the Germans in late 44 and 45.
