Opel Blitz / flak38 - A Work in Progress

I started this Opel Blitz "S-Type" a couple of months ago and have leisurely progressed to the point of building the flak38 20mm gun (from Dragon), finishing the cab detail of the "BLitz" and putting that together - permanently closing that up. Let's start at the beginning:

Chassis parts removed from sprue and assembly begins!

Chassis components assembled.

Engine,transmission/driveshaft, radiator, fuel tank, spare tire and battery box added to chassis. Ready to start painting!

I'll post a few pics at a time, documenting this build from start to completion. As always, questions, comments or suggestions are always welcome....

Re: Opel Blitz / flak38 - A Work in Progress

Oh Okay, you talked me into it...Damn I'm easy:

After painting the entire chassis black as it would have come from the factory, I used a serious of earthtone washes and drybrushings to weather the frame. Same method was used to "Rust" the leaf springs.

I went ahead and painted and weathered the engine even though it will not be visible....I know it's in there and it should be painted seen or not. Better view of rust on leaf spring in this pic.

As with the engine, the dashboard won't be that visible but I owed it to the model to paint her anyway. Not finished yet....used the old #2 pencil trick to simulate the scratches on the dash and the chrome rings around the guages -"an oldie but a goodie!"

Please excuse the lighting fellas, that's what one of those "Green Friendly" @&#*$^+@ bulbs does for your lighting...need to take LT's advice and get some good lighting. At any rate this gives an idea of what it should resemble. 20mm gun platform centered in bed, 20mm ammo cans in their rack and affixed to the front "wall" of the bed. Still haven't glued the cab down yet... that should be together today or tomorrow.
Going with 15th Pz. Div. markings .... early Afrika Korps.

Lots left to do by the end of this month, better get working on it ....NOW!!

See Ya'

Is that the Italeri Opel kit? I've built a few of those. The figures are lousy, but I enjoy that kit.

Not really sure LT...I
1) Upload all pics through the attachment manager, then once uploaded I close that window.
2) I then go to the attachments listed below the post and one by one I click on them, click properties, copy the link and then
3) go to insert image, once that comes up I backspace/delete the "http//:" that's already in the 'insert image' window and then paste the link I copied from the pics properties in there.
If you're doing it that same way, then I don't know how I'm getting the thumbnails and you're not.

Yes, It is the Italeri kit.
As it is with most of my kits, I bought this one about 20 years ago and after having been out of modelling for a while, I'm just getting around to building her.
Tom I understand you're a "Nord" guy... So, I'll give you a little preview of a
6th SS Vignette I've got "In the works". No base as of yet and I think I'm going to have to change those damn helmets (they looked okay when I started it but they look really crappy to me now!). Haven't finished painting the figures either, they're only about 80% done at this point.

Here it is:

I've made an attempt to duplicate the Gebirgsjager Climbing Boot best seen on the gunner in this pic.... might have to touch-up or re-do those too.

The Offizier's beard will not appear this heavy when done. That's how I duplicate evening shadow, paint a beard on in grey then light wash flesh tone over it...works well.

Hope you like 'em,
razorboy

Vielen Danke! They look good to me! I'll have to try that 1700 shadow trick sometime. If, that is, I ever have time for modeling again!

The project I've had in work for over a year is a fictional one. There's this Irish SS NCO, see, in charge of a green Puma...

It's a Feldgrau thing...
