It's just the grainsize that differs. Pigment powder is easyer to work with but you can get the same result with chalkbased drypastells that you grind to a powder. I've not tried Mig's pigments as they're a tad to expensive for my taste. The pigments that I've used is a "No-Name" variant that I did get hold of cheap.

They're probably just as good man. I'll stick with my pastels. I can file, sand or crush them to get different 'grades'...even a mortar and pestle could be interesting.

Re: My ongoin' Panther Ausf. G Späte build

I've finaly managed to put in fresh batterys in my camera in order to download more pictures from it.

More toolpictures, please have in mind that they're not complete just yet.

What I've tried here is paint the wooden handles with artist oils.

Here's more!

Also with artist oils.

The kit comes with two sets of different cableloops n' I've not decided yet what pair I should use.

Re: My ongoin' Panther Ausf. G Späte build

Thanks!

Hehe, it ain't easy even if it looks easy. But nothin' is hard when you can do it.

What it boils down to is mainly patience n' nimble fingers but foremost patience. Modellin' isn't for all even if all can build with various results. The main thing is havin' fun n' it's hard to have fun when small parts repeately gets lost (eaten by the carpet monster) or stuck to yer fingers.

Re: My ongoin' Panther Ausf. G Späte build

Mate it appears that the salt technique has some real potential...looking great. They're some very nicely moulded tools as well. The handles look fantastic. I'd hesitate to say that the Dragon tools for my Pz. IV look any better moulded.
I've seen an article in a modelling mag that stated that the handles for the wire cutters were bakelite. Sounds odd to me. Seems bakelite would be too brittle for such an application. Anyone able to yay or nay that?

I've seen the same claim myself n' I'm buin' it. 'cos late war MG42's had black bakelite pistolgrip n' stock so why not the wire cutters. But that's not what I'm after here so I painted my handles as if they're made of wood. My artistic freedom so to speak.

Re: My ongoin' Panther Ausf. G Späte build

I'll paint mine like wood too. I was just wondering about the 'fact' and thought you might know better than me. I have a bakelite cigarette box and I just know that a sharp tap in the right place and it will shatter like grandma's china. I don't know much about bakelite as a material, but it seems to me that the lateral stress one would need to apply in order to cut a length of military grade barbed wire would just break it. Having said that now, I seem to remember a very old telephone we had when my parents bought an old antique shop in the early seventies. That thing was big, heavy and tough as nails. I think that was bakelite...so I'm unsure now.
But wood it is for me too...until I learn otherwise.
What kind of salt have you used...I think I see some still stuck to the sprues?
