Re: Miniatures - You play - I do the work
Hi everyone. I thought I had better stop having fun and come back - that doesn't sound right does it ?
If anyone else wants to have a go I will start the next game as soon as possible after this one. Anyway - if I have this right it is the Germans defensive fire phase. I will post the results of that and any close combat shortly. |

Re: Miniatures - You play - I do the work
OK. German Defensive Fire.
The Panzer II has a shot at the british infantry to it's front. The section in front is suppressed. The infantry and Armoured car on the left fire at the Dingo with no effect. The Panzer III and IV both get a shot at the Valentine, again no effect. The 88 crew scramble back to their gun as fear of the Crusader takes precedence over artillery fire. The 88 fires at the Crusader - a suppression - this will affect the close combat. All other German fire is not effective due to range and ordering of units. CLOSE COMBAT. The only close combat is the Crusader against the 88. The Crusader is suppressed so it loses a bit off it's attack. The 88 is disordered so it loses a lot off it's roll. The Crusader has a higher close combat rating than the gun of around 30%. Taking the ordering into account this becomes a difference of about 50% in favour of the Crusader. The rolls are taken as the attack goes in - the 88 is abandoned by it's crew who retreat in disorder. The may come back but it will take two moves before they can fire again - if they reorder. The Crusader rolls forward and takes the gun position. The suppression on the Crusader stopped the gun from being completely destroyed. Unfortunate numbers for the Germans yet again. That is the end of the British move. It is now the German move starting with artillery and then offensive fire. |

Re: Miniatures - You play - I do the work
Hmmm point blank and still can't hit a thing, well it has been awhile since
i've played a board game, but from what i remember there would of been alot of casulties by now, must be using a diff system ![]() Anyway not looking too good for us here seeing how we can't hurt a desert fly, hmmmm i better ring Field Marshall Hagen right away and let him know we have a breach at the front!

Dice rolls can be very "fickle" in war games, just 1 bad roll and there can be some very bad things going on!! What has me worried is when yours (good ones) come up, then you might see me chokin' on my "Tea" here..... Cheers Tommy MAGNA Good to have you back, so how much fun did you have my friend, worth a "chat" maybe? Tom |

Re: Miniatures - You play - I do the work
Tommy is absolutely right on that...our rolls seem to have helped us fare well to this point, but the Close Combat coming up, esspecially with all our Infantry, can turn the tide if your rolls hit home. My guess is, this system is a little more "generous" when it comes to artillery and armor; but will probably be a blood bath in Close Combat Infantry tactics.
Then again, we British are a tough lot, ehh pip pip!

Re: Miniatures - You play - I do the work
Yeah you guys are right, i'm very rusty at this and wouldn't know even
how to do the rolls or %, so i'm glad to leave it up to you experts to sort it out, thanks. BTW, in your honest opinion, do you guys think in the real world it would've been possible for a Crusader to take 3 hits from an 88, one point blank and survive?? , just wondering.

That does "get me", I know what you mean there!! I mean, if the German crew were "fresh off the boat" replacements, there is a chance, but other wise......
![]() One thing to consider is what the game is representing here, maybe a wind "kicked up" some sand in the gunners sights, the tank moved left instead of right for what the 88 crew aimed for. From what I know, the 88 crews were crack shots in Africa, plenty of exp and were dead on most of the time!! Many British tanks paid the ultimate price there I bet!! Cheers Tom |
