Re: Miniatures - You play - I do the work
I am going to make up some red and probably yellow markers out of plastic discs for showing suppressions and disorders. If I get time I will also do some hull down markers and dug in markers.
I also have an idea for showing unit strength / losses as an update for each turn. This would allow commanders to see whether a maneuver element is getting to a dangerous point and so on. I will try this as a type of bar graph and post it if it looks ok so you can see if it makes sense. |

Re: Miniatures - You play - I do the work
Thanks Tom. I hope it helps. I was going to look into showing measurements in some way but the rule system doesn't allow it. Each target is specified before shooting and units to fire must be specified too. That way if a unit is eliminated other units specified as firing a re said to have had their shot and cannot change target. Makes things more interesting too. Also, measurements from firer to target are not made until actual firing takes place, also more interesting. Same for movement - no measuring of distance before the move.
Also, one thing I haven't mentioned for movement rolls - if a unit rolls badly and has to fall back one action disordered or to nearest cover, it may actually stay where it is if already in cover - eg the German infantry in the rocks. If they roll very badly to move and get this effect, they will become disordered but will stay in position as it is cover. Another thing is that although infantry can't fire through friendly infantry, tanks and guns can providing they are firing at a vehicle or gun - not at infantry. The next one or two moves will probably decide the game one way or the other. Whether it becomes a draw, marginal victory, or decisive victory remains to be seen. The German units have certainly been compressed into the one area around the ridge from their own placement and from the British moves - a lot of teeth left in a small area. It's now up to the British to snap the jaws shut and see if they can knock out a few fillings. |

I got it, just a little harder trying to "guess" the range of things in pics is all for me.
No chance for WR and me to hook up, so WR, you are here now, so send me an extra PM thoughts from you and I will cut orders tonight after work. Cheers Tommy |

Re: Miniatures - You play - I do the work
Both sides are firing nervously as the range dissipates.
British Defensive Fire. The 6lber has a shot at the 251 with no effect. The Valentine has the same problem with the PzIV. The infantry on the right flank fire at the German infantry in the rocks causing a disorder - not what you want to be with a possible close combat coming up. The infantry on the left and front of the ridge let fly at the German infantry in front of them with another suppression resulting. The Grant speaks for the first time - aimed almost unfairly at the brave little Panzer II - it must be channeling the 88 crew - terrible shot with no effect at all. End of Defensive Fire. NEXT TURN. British artillery. The 5.5's haven't got the 88 to play with anymore so they switch to the German infantry and the Panzer IV - with no success. The 25lbers come in from the Panzer III to the left end of the ridge. No result on the infantry but a great hit on the top of the Panzer II. A suppression - this vehicle is now vulnerable not only to the Grant but also to close assault by infantry. A bit of luck for the Germans as far as the firing and artillery went. Now all they have to get through is the British Offensive Fire Phase and the results of their movement. Will the British troops on the left continue or will they call it a day? Will the Panzer II survive ? I don't know - I'm the umpire so it doesn't really worry me but I must admit I am very interested in what is going to happen next. No one seems to have an advantage so it is still hard to pick this one. Well done again to everyone. |

HHMMMM, I think I will "roll the dice" for the next game WR, JUST KIDDING buddy. The law of averages has to get us sometime here, being at the critical stage is just plain bad luck here for the British.
Lets see how we do for our attack on the hill!! Cheers, Magna, did the mortars do anything, or a total miss there as well?? Tommy |
