I'm waiting to with a little more than a little excitement on the German reactions!!
![]() MAGNA, needless to say, please consult with the British team before doing anything as to any fire in the end of turn two, defensive fire, is'nt it? Or was that done already. Turn three will require specific orders from us as well. A quick game indeed so far, not sure how I feel about that, but I'm going with the flow so far. ![]() Cheers, other battles would be "longer" though, right? TOMMY |

Still, I haven't seen any fat ladies warming up to sing yet so this one is far from over too. Other battles are generally much longer with a lot more units. Sometimes a battalion of infantry, two companies of armour, and ancilliary equipment. That's for each side too. Since this one is a learning experience it isn't a big worry as to who wins as long as everyone gets the feel for it. Just to recap on the turn sequence too - it is important. 1. Artillery / Mortars - planes if applicable (sometimes naval guns too - ouch). 2. Offensive fire - Any unit not moving in the attackers turn may now fire or go onto overwatch. 3. Movement - roll for movement - reorder units. Units with a high enough allowance can do two actions (eg one move and attempt hull down). Lower move allowance may be one action, reorder and move once, reorder and not move, move back once disordered, panic for two actions with back to the enemy. 4. Defensive fire (the German phase we are at now). Defenders may fire any unit capable except artillery and mortars. Note - if an attacker makes a rapid advance - moves for two actions - that attacking unit may be fired on during the second action at any point in that action. This stops attackers rushing up and being in a position to close combat as they can be fired on (opportunity fire if you like) before they get within the 1" range for close combat. When fired on if a unit is disordered it stops where it was hit and cannot continue in that move. 5. Close Combat - All units have a close combat factor. Any attacking unit within 1" of an enemy unit at the end of it's movement phase can declare close combat (why wouldn't you). It must survive opportunity and defensive fire first but if it does the close combat is then resolved. Scary stuff as infantry can take on tanks doing this. Back to one and swap sides for the next move. |

Now I'm getting a better feel for the game. I take it the INF pieces represent a Squad? At some point when and if you get the chance can we see the units close up, A parade ground formation would be fine, they do look nice from what I can see. TRDG and Whiterook and all I will be available on chat in the evening/night as of Thursday, I'm on days off or on Eve shift after that. BTW MAGNA, a huge Bravo Zulu, on the excellent work you've put into this. I really appreciate the time and effort you've put into this.

As far as parade ground formation goes - these older figures look better further away. The other more modern figures (better painted) will be the ones you will see closer up. Thanks for the appreciation everyone. It's easy though when you enjoy playing God (synonym for umpire). Future games if played will have more intricate scenario options (some are downright devious) and much better layout. I am messing around with Photoshop etc. to allow decent markers and pointers on the pics to help explain what happens. In the meantime we will wait for the German commanders to finish their ersatz coffee and rejoin the war.

Re: Miniatures - You play - I do the work
I am going with the obvious assumptions for the German defensive fire so I will finish that and then the German second move tonight. Pics forthcoming.
German commanders can mail me on defensive fire in the next few hours if they have anything special but at this stage it looks pretty straight forward. I hope the lads in that Crusader have medical insurance. |
