Question Do you game on a WWII anniversary?

Here's a measure of how serious you take your wargaming!

Do you play a particular wargame on the Anniversary of a WWII Battle?

I have several that I can (and do) break out to play a scenario on just such a day, but I have two of particular note:

I play Axis & Allies: D-Day on June 6th every year. If the day falls on a workday, yup you got it, I take the day off from work and play it at a leisurely pace through the late morning and afternoon. I'll generally pop in "The Longest Day" after breakfast, to get in the zone ...then it's boardgame time! I even have a playlist on my I-Pod with WWII music (movie themes, video game soundtracks, etc.) to set the mood.

I play Axis & Allies: Battle of the Bulge in mid-December. This one I won't take the day off from work for (hey, how many days off can you devote to gaming and still remain married!?), but will play on the first Saturday after the battle commenced. As with the previous game, yup, in goes the movie sometime prior to play (sometimes a few days before...usually on an early bedtime night for my beloved).

So, what are yours? And if you don't, when are you going to get off your duff and get gaming...and to what? Come on, you know you want to!

Re: Do you game on a WWII anniversary?

I have played the Avalon Hill "Battle of the Bulge" game from the Smithsonian series on Dec 16th a few times. Also have played the game Seelowe Heights by Six Angles Game on 16 April on a few occasions. Am now trying to see if I can get "Fortress Berlin" ready to go for April. I don't know though, it's a large game and will have to have a discussion with the wifes cat!

Re: Do you game on a WWII anniversary?

Wow, that's a good looking game! I have to look into that. The counters and mapboard look very nice...are the rules long and complex like Avalon Hill, or more like the 12-20 pagers I see more of these days?

Glad to see another chit-pusher here on the Zone!

Re: Do you game on a WWII anniversary?

Hi Whiterook

Fortress Berlin is a magazine (Against the Odds) game the rules are 19 pages. This from the cover; A two player game of the last major battle of World War II in Europe, 22" x 34" full color map, 480 full color die-cut counters

While it says "A two player game" it has a page of solitaire rules.

I had this game all set up once before, but things got in the way, so put it away.

Did you read about this game at webgrognards?? If you did you'll see it took two players twelve hours and didn't even get half way through it.

I will get this game set up and played! However a friend of mine just pointed out a game from "Lock n Load";( That has really caught my interest. I may have to fold up the map again!!! Also this would be a game you'ld re-box, although when I got the game you could get it boxed for an extra $5.00 and I now wish I would have.
