Re: Do you play Axis & Allies spin-offs?

I agree.....it's funny, but I don't kn ow many gamers who play AA Europe of Pacific. Not sure why, as they're both pretty cool.

Yeah, it's cool on Axis & Allies Miniatures, in that you can get the starter set and a booster or two, and have enough to start gaming right away. It's a cool part about the system.

I'm curious, based on your post....do you feel Avalon Hill (in it's latest incarnation) was a bad influence on the Axis & Allies title?
Well, im not sure, LOL. I have the original as i have said and i love it. But i have never played the AH version of the original. I do enjoy AH's version of D-Day though.

Fair enough

You know, of all the Axis & Allies game, with the posiible exception of A&A Miniatures, D-Day is probablythe most "solitaire-friendly" version they have out! I love that game solitaire!!! Only A&A Miniatures get more solitaire play from me.

Re: Do you play Axis & Allies spin-offs?

I actually picked up a game on ebay (original) for $10 that had one infantry piece missing. I have yet to play it because my friend that I used to play a lot of games with, is now going to get married. So now he spends a lot of time with the wife to be. Understandable, so I need to find another player.

LOL, been there.

The guy who got me into gaming when i was a kid, just up and quit playing for no reason when i was 14. He was my older brothers best friend and really had no reason to stop playing games with me. Im still friends with him to this day and occasionaly ill ask him why he quit and he will say "I dont know.....", go figure.

I searched for a few years til i was about 24 til i found someone to play with again, but in the mean time i still bought games and played solo. Then as it turned out a friend i had since we were in kindergarten informs me one day when he sees all my war games displayed on a shelf that he would be into playing them! Im like why didnt you tell me this s@#$ 10 years ago, LOL. So anyhow we play like 3 nights a week solid for like two years and then he meets a girl and moves to Georgia, i havent seen hide nor hair of him in 14 years.

But i have recently been able to talk one of my long time D&D companions into playing simple wargames like A&A and Memoir '44 and he really likes them. Plus i have a few military history inclined nephews that are now old enough to play so i once again have people to play but my gaming time is limited due to my buddies work schedule aand the kids school schedule.

Exclamation Re: Do you play Axis & Allies spin-offs?

I played a newer version of A & A this past weekend at a convention. It was like the original, but it had artillery and destroyers in it. Here is a picture:

I haven't played any A & A in about three to four years, so naturally I lost! I was playing United Kingdom and United States. The guy on the right played Germany and won. It was fun, but I kinda like the original. The one cool thing was that the pieces were all different depending on country. The English Fighters really looked like Spitfires, and the American fighters looked like P38's. That part was cool.

Re: Do you play Axis & Allies spin-offs?

This has been an interesting poll...answers across the board, no pun intended! I find it interesting that the original see's a lot of action...I guess a classic never loses it's appeal. Of the games I mention, the one that seems to get the least "talk" from the gamers I've come across face-to-face has been Battle of the Bulge. Though BoB is maybe the "quirkies" version, with it's use of front line markers (which can be a bit too labor intensive for me at times), I find it a lot of fun. I like that it incorporated transportation with the Deuce and a Halfs so well. It does fail from being a little too predictable, which is predictable.

Re: Do you play Axis & Allies spin-offs?

I've only played the original and miniatures games. How do some of the spin-offs differ from the original, besides the place? (Pacific, Europe, ect)

Re: Do you play Axis & Allies spin-offs?

Well, the quick answer to that would be: Smaller in scope. Where as the original Axis & Allies game is the world war, literally; all the others (besides Miniatures, which is its own totally different thing) covers a smaller portion of the war, such as the Pacific or European fronts.....and specific battles, such as D-Day, the Bulge, and Guadalcanal. Each plays a little different, too, which is a good thing in many ways.

Question Re: Do you play Axis & Allies spin-offs?

Thanks WR, one more question, is the attack/defense the same? (actually two questions) Do the others have any different units that aren't in the A & A original?
