Re: Workareas?

Oh great it's contagious......

Does anyone know if there is a desk with the right containers etc that is specifically marketed for modelling? Just out of interest.

By containers, do you mean drawers and recesses for jars...that kind of thing? If so, no clue...maybe Ikea () have something that would be useful. Beware of their standing glass 'display' units though. I bought one for the models and they were covered in just as much dust inside it as they did outside it.

That's the kind of thing yes. I was also thinking of something with an in progress area where you fold open a lid and front or something and your current build is all there with selected tools, paints etc that pertain to it. It would be nice to be able to close something up and come straight back to it without having to put all the stuff away (kids, cats....).

I use a writing desk? thingo with a fold down door which is similar but it is a bit cramped.

Nice to dream though.

Re: Workareas?

Hmmm, I was thinking a writing desk or secretary desk. If you know a good woodworker, maybe something you could have built from an exsiting desk...or from scratch. I am neither that talented, nor have friends tht have that kind of skill.

Re: Workareas?

I use an old drafting desk that belonged to an old girlfriend. It's too high for my son but I've taught him excellent 'Dad's Study' protocol. He's allowed in there as long as he obeys the very few (but strict) rules. He never lets me down because (thank God) he seems to be showing some interest in my 'panes' (planes). He most enjoys placing blobs of old oil paint onto lumps of blu-tack...it's his hobby if you will.
MAGNA, I've been thinking that nothing beats a custom built desk. It's what I will eventually do. My desk is about a metre square and I only build there. It's always cluttered. I have another table set up for painting. I never have to pack up because the room is mine...I just shut the door.

Re: Workareas?

I just saw something down town that is close to spot on. A sewing desk / cabinet. Fold out cupboards with little holders for stuff all over the place. Good solid work area and the whole thing folds back up nicely after.

Re: Workareas?

I've seen a couple of years ago special desks that was marketed towards flytyers. They were expensive in fine wood n' so on but they would sure fit the bill for modellin'.
