Re: A Quick Rant

I also have to agree with McCoy's assessment. I've learned more from participating in group builds and 'speaking' to other modellers. While a magazine article is great, you can't ask questions. I also find that many magazine articles assume that the reader has a certain amount of knowledge or understanding and that may not always be the case. Reading on old FSM a while ago, I came across a reader's letter entitled 'What is a wash?'

I still have old Military Modeler magazines from 1978. Also have some Scale Modeler mags from before they became FSM.

That may be the salient point in all this. I've noticed serious modellers tend to be related to the Crow family. If it looks interesting, keep it. Reference material is a big part of modelling and all my really old magazines have the articles cut out and filed for space reasons and retrieval. To get the same article again would be more than annoying.

One of these days.....I'm going to scan and PDF all my issues. Some has already started to yellow.

Re: A Quick Rant

I've been getting FSM for almost a year now, and already, they are starting to look like the same issue in some ways. I still enjoy them, but the are not real big on detail. I actually find more info, and better writeups online. And I agree, that I'd prefer to engage in discussions and asking questions here! Definitely more helpful in my view!!!

Re: A Quick Rant

Having started this thread, I then went out yesterday and bought two mags. My favourite and my least favourite. We get the mags about a month after their release (apparently they come by ship and camel) but they both have really good articles in them 'this' month (June).
