Yeah, I'm thinking France, May 1940 - with both of them together in a field with some Infantry. Just what I'm thinking..... not sure yet though.

Oh man, that sounds awesome, RB! How many dios do you have under your belt so far? I'm planning on trying my hands on a diorama soon, maybe this Summer sometime.

Not exactly sure, probably 16 or 17 total. The cool thing is that I learn something new each and every time I build one! Even after all of these years ....... you can teach an Old Dog new tricks!

I've had an early war dio. floating around in my head for 30+ years now and I think this is the one, not for sure but I'll know when it's done ....... then I'll let you know. If not, I'll keep building them until I get that one that truly "Haunts me" replicated accurately.

Thanks for asking Emery,

Good to see things are progressing in the build. I found two good hobby shops in Melbourne and got a few things. The 1/35th scale DORA model would have been nice but I don't think it would have fitted in my case plus the hole it would have made in my bank account.

I look forward to the French scene too Razorboy. i bought a 1/76th Fujimi Praga which may come up all right.

I won't say what the other stuff is at this stage because what I have in mind will either be good or absolutely terrible.

You're in town eh MAGNA? Which hobby shops did you go to? There are three big ones in the city (CBD) and I've had bad experiences at two of them. Where's the wedding mate? I know it's up around here somewhere.

Hi Geek. It was a flying trip but I am definitely going back. Melbourne / Victoria is well worth a longer visit.

The wedding was at Poets Lane on Sherbrook Road. Excellent area.

The hobby shops I found were in the city. One was the Hobby Place which was ok. The other was Hearnes Hobbies down at the railway station - very well laid out shop. A lot of the 1/72nd stuff was way cheaper too. I would have liked more time to look in those shops but it wasn't available.

Next time we will organise a decent stay and a bit of sightseeing. I have friends in Wantirna which is probably getting closer to where you are.

I would think the hardest thing about doing a lot of dioramas is where to store the suckers. I know a lot of guys sell them, but those that don't must run out of room quick!

Poet's Lane is a really nice spot...I live less than 5km from there and we have friends that live a stone's throw. The weather last week was about as perfect as it gets mate...sunny but not hot. I love autumn.
Hearnes is the best of the big city shops and also the oldest. I used to go to 'The Hobby Place' all the time. I guess I shopped fairly regularly there for nearly 20 years. The last time I was there, the boss was almost put out that I was buying stuff and I vowed I'd never go back. You'd think after 20 years a 'g'day mate' isn't too much to ask.

i noticed that attitude at the Hobby Place. They didn't seem too interested in serving me and another bloke as we weren't buying R/C stuff. They also tried to sell an older chap a cheap bottle single action airbrush with a huge nozzle for painting 1/72nd scale planes. I told him he needed a double action gun fro the detail he wanted. Surprising. Still, far more variety than what I get over here. I meant to ask at Hearnes whether they do mail order too but I forgot - too busy drooling.

The weather was superb too - very much like Albany in autumn (for any possible tourists - we are all lying about autumn - come here in summer etc but not autumn - we want the place to ourselves ).

What really gets you about the Dandenongs is the plant life. So green with all the ferns in the deep gullies and the large amount of tall trees. Next time I will find you Geek as I would like to meet you and see your model collection.
